Last week, Sébastien Martin, Minister Delegate for Industry, visited the future site of the eM Rhône project, developed by Elyse Energy. The site will be located at the heart of the Les Roches Roussillon Chemical Platform, managed by the OSIRIS ROUSSILLON Economic Interest Group (GIE).
With the eM Rhône project, Elyse Energy plans to produce 150,000 tons of methanol per year, representing nearly 25% of France's annual methanol consumption, which is currently entirely fossil-based and imported.
The facility will recycle more than 200,000 tons of CO₂ per year.
With a total investment of €700 million, the project will prevent more than 2 million tons of CO₂ emissions over 10 years and will generate 320 direct and indirect jobs.
Following the public inquiry, the final investment decision is expected at the end of 2026. Work could begin in 2027, with commissioning in 2029.
