Sustainable Development Day (SDD) 23rd edition
with Les Roches–Roussillon Platform
Activity decline, decarbonisation and projects
Les Roches–Roussillon Chemical Platform held its 23rd SDD on 6 November. The event brought together around 200 participants, including key regional partners (elected officials, local authorities, administrations, associations, industrial companies, etc.), for discussions on the societal challenges the Platform faces.
Year 2025 confirms trends observed since 2023, namely :
On the one hand, progress of structuring developments for the Platform :

- OSIRIS decarbonization project
- Seqens CHC (Novacyl) Phoenix project for paracetamol production
- Hydrogen/CCU production unit start-up (CCU = carbon capture and utilization)
- Elyse Energy EM-Rhône e-methanol project
- Michelin 5-HMF unit construction

Between 2021 and 2025, nearly €200 million will have been invested in the Chemical Platform - 80% of these receiving financial support by France Relance.
On the other hand, tough economic situation at European level with strong short-term impacts on the main companies of the Platform :

- No change in activity for most players (between -30 and -50% capacity utilization)
- Energy prices long established higher than outside Europe, detrimental for competitiveness of the French chemical industry in the long term
- Structural savings plans deployed by Platform's players
- No sign of recovery for 2026

Nevertheless, reducing the environmental impact of the Platform remains a key priority, with flagship achievements such as :

- Commissioning of a solar farm.
- Energy consumption more than 75% non-fossil.
- Rehabilitation of a former landfill site
- All platform stakeholders shared project roadmaps for significant cuts on CO2 emissions.
- Construction of a contraption to improve groundwater level for Île de la Platière.
- Synergy actions with positive environmental effects, enhanced by Platform ecosystem.
